The SSC CGL (Staff Selection Commission - Combined Graduate Level) examination is conducted in four tiers. Here’s an overview of the exam pattern:
1) Tier-I: Computer Based Examination (CBT)
Subjects: General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Comprehension
Number of Questions: 100 questions
Total Marks: 200 marks (each question carries 2 marks)
Duration: 60 minutes (80 minutes for visually handicapped candidates)
Note: There is negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Tier-I.
2) Tier-II: Computer Based Examination (CBT)
1) Subjects:
Paper-I: Quantitative Abilities
Paper-II: English Language & Comprehension
Paper-III: Statistics (only for candidates applying for the post of Statistical Investigator Gr. II & Compiler)
Paper-IV: General Studies (Finance & Economics) (only for candidates applying for the post of Assistant Audit Officer in C&AG)
Number of Questions: 100 questions per paper
Total Marks: 200 marks per paper
Duration: 120 minutes per paper (160 minutes for visually handicapped candidates)
Note: Paper-I and II are compulsory for all posts. Paper-III is only for candidates applying for the Statistical Investigator Gr. II & Compiler posts, and Paper-IV is only for candidates applying for the Assistant Audit Officer post.
3) Tier-III: Pen and Paper Mode (Descriptive Paper)
Subjects: Descriptive Paper in English or Hindi (Writing of Essay/Precis/Letter/Application etc.)
Total Marks: 100 marks
Duration: 60 minutes (80 minutes for visually handicapped candidates)
4) Tier-IV: Computer Proficiency Test/Skill Test (where applicable)
Nature: This tier is qualifying in nature.
Skills: Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) / Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) / Document Verification
Candidates must qualify each tier of the examination to move to the next one. The final merit list is prepared based on the cumulative scores of Tier-I, Tier-II, and Tier-III examinations.
